Andrews, Texas is county seat of Andrews county, located in West Texas. Andrews was built up by the oil industry. After the first oil well was drilled in 1929, Andrews became one of the major oil producing towns in Texas. Over the years, as the oil industry has changed and the production from existing wells has diminished, the community has found other ways to advance economically. Waste disposal, although, a long time controversy in this area of Texas, has played a major role, in the economic development of this area.
Andrews is home to many prominent businesses that contribute to the community. In 1972, the Kirby Company brought a vacuum cleaner factory to Andrews. This was the first factory outside of its home state of OH. The company employs around 200 people. In recent years, there have been investments in business parks to attract new businesses.
